Bureau Central was one of those places that remained worth visiting even after years. The old office complex formed part of a large industrial site in northern France.
Several buildings on the site had already been renovated and given a new use. For Bureau Central itself, that still seemed a step too far at the time.
I made this series in 2013. The website also has a photo story from my later visit in 2015.
The large inner space and the remaining roof structure give the office an unexpected scale. In contrast, there are the smaller passageways and long corridors. The damage is not the same everywhere. Some parts still have distinct shapes and finishes; elsewhere the boundary between inside and outside has disappeared. Together, these images show the difference between a building that is empty and one that is slowly falling apart.
