Would you like to use a photograph from EOSfoto? You may. My own photographs are available under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International, abbreviated to CC BY 4.0.

You do not need to ask for separate permission in advance, provided you comply with the licence conditions.

What may you do?

You may copy, publish, distribute and edit my photographs. For example, you may crop a photograph or incorporate it into a design.

This is allowed for personal and commercial use. Copyright remains with me; the licence gives you permission to use the photographs.

What credit should you include?

When sharing or publishing, provide appropriate attribution:

  • The creator: Marco Delnoij — EOSfoto.
  • The source: a link to the original photograph or report, as far as reasonably practicable.
  • The licence: CC BY 4.0, with a link to the licence.
  • Any edits: indicate whether you have modified the photograph and retain supplied notices of previous modifications.

Also retain any supplied copyright notices, other required attribution and references to the disclaimer of warranties. Depending on the medium, a link to a page containing that information may be sufficient.

An example

For an unedited photograph, you could write:

Photo: Marco Delnoij — EOSfoto · [link to the original report] · CC BY 4.0

Have you cropped the photograph? Add, for example: ‘Crop adjusted’.

Place the credit somewhere appropriate to the use and reasonably easy to find. In print, you can write out the name, source and licence address.

Which images does this cover?

This permission applies to my own photographs, except where an image is explicitly marked otherwise.

Illustrations, logos, screenshots and photographs by other people are not automatically covered by my licence. My accompanying articles are not automatically released under CC BY either.

Unsure whether an image is mine? Email info@eosfoto.nl, preferably including a link to the image.

What else should you consider?

You must not imply that I endorse your publication, product or edit. You must not impose additional legal conditions or technological restrictions that limit others in doing what the licence permits.

Other rights may still apply, such as personality or publicity rights, privacy, trademarks or copyright in an artwork shown in a photograph. Your particular use may therefore require additional permission.

A licence to use a photograph does not give you permission to enter the land or building it depicts.

The official licence remains applicable

This page provides an explanation. The terms are set out in the official summary and the full legal text.

The photographs are offered without warranties, to the extent permitted by the licence and the law. Statutory exceptions, such as valid quotation rights, remain available.

The permission is irrevocable as long as you comply with the conditions. If you breach them, your right to use the photographs terminates; the official licence also explains how that right may be reinstated.

An updated date on this page does not change the licence: it remains CC BY 4.0.
