Forge Vulcain and Forge Lunaire are two names for the same former steelworks in France. Among other things, scrap was processed into new steel here. When we photographed it, the large installations were still present.
It was already well over thirty degrees outside that day. Inside the factory, it was certainly no cooler. The scale of the building and its heavy machinery nevertheless made it a place with plenty to photograph.
Different websites tell different stories about the exact reason for the closure. The photographs confirm its role in steel production, but not every economic detail. I prefer to keep the distinction between observation and background clear.
The heavy furnace installations and elevated working floors define the view. Steelmaking cannot be summed up in one large hall: the different levels and connections show how people and materials had to move through the building. A wide view mainly conveys the scale. Closer up, the rust, the structure and the remaining components become more important.
