Pinokkio

This old lime kiln was also known among urbex photographers as Lime Factory. When I looked back at my photographs, I felt the original name suited it better after all: Pinokkio.

The inside of the complex was surprising. Unfortunately, a great deal had already been destroyed when I visited in spring 2013. It was mainly the structures built to be more or less vandal-proof that still stood. They too provided plenty to photograph.

The large cylindrical kiln makes the name understandable in hindsight. From outside, its length draws the eye; closer up, it becomes a collection of rings, bolts and weathered metal. Lime production involves heating in a kiln. It is not always possible to establish from a single photograph exactly which installation performed which part of the process here. The visible machinery is interesting enough without naming every component.
