Usine De Naeyer

Louis De Naeyer started a paper mill in 1860. The company grew into a large industrial complex that provided a great deal of employment.

Production ended in 2004. After the vacancy came remediation and a new use for the area. Some of the older buildings were preserved.

This series mainly shows the remaining interiors. The factory’s name was already part of its public industrial history; I add no route or access information here.

The stained glass and spiral staircase show a side of industry that easily goes unnoticed in a large factory hall. Buildings were also made for offices, reception and daily use. The purpose of a paper mill therefore cannot be read from every individual interior. It is precisely the variety of such rooms that makes a photo story of an industrial complex complete.
