Monastery Mont G

This former monastery had been on my list for a long time. On a drizzly day, I finally photographed the neo-Gothic church and the other rooms.

There were signs of clearing out. Whether that meant conversion work was about to begin was unclear. In complexes like this, a long time may pass between emptying a room and the actual start of a new use.

The church has tall pointed arches and clearly defined lines in the brickwork. In the attic photograph, the building instead becomes a structure of timber, steel and open space. Both belong to the same complex. A series need not consist only of the most beautiful place of worship; the structure above it also shows something of what was needed to build it.
