Sick Hospital had only been empty for a short time when I photographed it. Some facilities were still present, and the lighting still worked in places.
As often in a former hospital, I was particularly interested in the operating rooms and the mortuary. These rooms reveal their original purpose very directly. The series describes the building during my visit, without making the location more identifiable by naming an institution or address.
The surgical lights and tables immediately give the rooms a recognisable purpose. In an empty room, the position of that equipment stands out far more than during normal use. At the same time, a tidy appearance can mislead. Working lights or equipment left behind say nothing about the safety of a building or the condition of medical supplies.
