Grand Hôtel Regnier was a hotel dating from the early twentieth century. The name belonged to a time when a stay with extensive service was mainly reserved for wealthy travellers.
When I photographed there with others, that use had ended years earlier. The bedrooms and shared spaces were badly deteriorated. Their former finishes were still recognisable, though.
The images belong to the period after the hotel closed and before it disappeared.
The damaged walls and the old bathroom show something very different from the promise associated with the name Grand Hôtel. A wider view also reveals the hotel’s original scale. The contrast is already present in the building itself: accommodation for guests, photographed at a time when nobody was staying there anymore.
