Villa Hector was one of those places that eventually attracted, figuratively speaking, busloads of visitors. Almost nothing remained in its original position in this little house beside a Belgian main road.
As we happened to be driving past, we stopped briefly for a few photographs anyway.
The house was demolished in January 2014. There is therefore no point looking for Villa Hector anymore. The photographs show what still stood.
A chandelier still hangs in an almost empty room. Elsewhere, a bottle and loose objects lie on a table. That kind of image mainly says something about the state of things during photography; it does not prove how the residents left their home. That doubt comes with a heavily visited location. I therefore do not turn the objects left behind into a story about the former residents’ lives.
