When I visited Remise Monceau, a former Belgian railway workshop, I was too late to find the trains still inside. The workshop was empty.
That forced me to look at the building differently. The spaces themselves became the subject, rather than the trains that once stood there.
During a second visit in 2015, I saw how quickly decay had progressed. Some parts I had photographed before had already largely collapsed.
The rows of columns and tracks in the floor reveal the length of the hall. Without trains, it is easier to see how work must have been distributed through the space. The smaller work areas remained interesting too: a table, a window and a few objects left behind give the same workshop a very different scale. The later collapses cast these pictures in a different light.
