The last residents of Manoir Von Duchess had left a long time before. Even so, the country house was still in reasonably good condition during my visit.
Some belongings had been moved, but enough original details remained to photograph. The stately house was well hidden among trees and shrubs.
In the surrounding area, vacancy was increasing and jobs were disappearing. Finding a new use proved far from straightforward even for beautiful properties like this one.
The staircase, wooden panelling and fireplace still show much of the original interior. At the same time, material lies on the floor and walls are deteriorating. In these photographs the building is somewhere between a complete home and an empty structural shell. A moved chair may make a pleasing picture, but it makes the image of the house less reliable.
