Château Congo

This abandoned castle was somewhere in the Belgian Ardennes. During my visit it was in such a poor condition that I limited myself to a small number of photographs. Large parts looked close to collapse.

The urbex name Château Congo came from books about the former Belgian Congo that lay in the building. Souvenir hunters later took them away.

Here too, another part of what gave the location its own story disappeared.

With the openings in the roof and the missing sections of floor, it is sometimes hard to see in the photographs where one storey ends and the next begins. Vegetation grows through the structure. What becomes an attractive arrangement of lines in a photograph was, on site, mainly a reason to go no further. The small size of this series is therefore a deliberate limit, rather than a missed opportunity to climb a little higher.
