Manoir DP

Like so many other houses in Belgium, Manoir DP had been empty for years. Abandoned homes are not my favourite subject, so I initially waited outside.

When my companion stayed away for a very long time, I decided to take a look after all.

For me, the visit once again made clear how thin the line between urbex and voyeurism can be. All those abandoned personal belongings appealed to me less and less. When I edited the photographs two years later, I immediately remembered why.

A bathtub, a washbasin and a few armchairs are very ordinary objects. In an empty house they soon acquire a meaning added by the photographer. For me, that is precisely the boundary: you can record what is there, but that does not mean you know anything about the people who used it. This small series therefore stays with the rooms and the condition of the house.
